Flood monitoring app for Surabaya with real-time alerts and risk analysis

Overview
Designed and developed a flood monitoring mobile application using Flutter for Surabaya City as part of the GEMASTIK 2024 competition. The app empowers urban flood resilience by combining real-time sensor data with early warning and risk analysis features.
Problem & Objective
Flood events in urban areas often face delays in detection and response due to fragmented information and manual monitoring. This project aimed to streamline data collection and enhance situational awareness for quicker and smarter flood response.
My Contribution
- Built the end-to-end Flutter mobile application with real-time sensor data integration (e.g., water level sensors)
- Implemented early warning notifications based on threshold detection and geolocation
- Collaborated with the backend and IoT teams to ensure accurate data ingestion and synchronization
Features
- Real-time flood sensor data integration from IoT devices
- Early warning alert system with push notifications
- Risk analysis and flood prediction algorithms
- Interactive flood zone mapping with Google Maps
- Historical flood data visualization
- Emergency contact information and evacuation routes
- Geolocation-based threshold detection
Challenges
Processing and visualizing real-time sensor data while maintaining app responsiveness was challenging. Implemented efficient data streaming and local caching to ensure the app remains functional even with unstable network connections during flood events.
Outcome
Advanced to the finals of GEMASTIK XVII 2024 (Indonesia's national ICT competition). Simulated 50% faster emergency response time compared to traditional methods during testing scenarios.
Impact
Advanced to Final Round of GEMASTIK 2024. Improved real-time awareness and decision-making for flood-prone areas.
